My pet takes a while to warm up to new people. Will this make a photo session difficult?
Not at all! Many of the pets I photograph need a little time to warm up, and that’s completely normal. My sessions are designed to be flexible, giving us plenty of space for slow introductions, sniff breaks, and whatever your pet needs to feel comfortable.
Creating a safe, relaxed experience is my top priority for both you and your furry friend. I’m here to capture the real moments: the happy tail wags, soft glances, and playful quirks that make your pet who they are never uncomfortable forced poses or stress.
Do you photograph people and pets?
Both!
I absolutely love capturing the unique bond between people and their pets whether they have paws, hooves, feathers, or scales. My sessions are all about celebrating that connection while letting your pet’s personality shine front and center.
I take a pet-focused approach, which means we’ll gently incorporate you into the session in natural, heartfelt ways without taking the spotlight off your beloved companion. Of course, if you'd rather stay behind the scenes, that’s totally okay too! There are creative ways to include your presence a hand, a cuddle, a quiet moment without making you the main focus.
It’s all about what feels right for you and your pet and making sure the final images reflect your bond in a way that feels honest, beautiful, and real.
I'm not sure what location would work best for a photo session. Can you help me pick a location?
Absolutely! During the planning process, we’ll talk about what you love and what your pet needs. If they’re not a fan of water, we’ll skip the lake. Not into long walks? We can choose a cozy, local spot instead of a state park. Some pets prefer staying indoors and that’s totally okay! Every session is built around your pet’s comfort and personality so we can create a relaxed, meaningful experience that feels just right for both of you.
Can you photograph high energy dogs?
Absolutely!
I've worked with pets of all ages, breeds, and personalities from shy and anxious to wiggly and wildly energetic. Trust me, you’re not bringing the most excitable pet I've ever met… and even if you are, I'm ready for it!
To help set the tone for a successful session, I always recommend arriving a little early. This gives your pet time to explore the area, shake off some extra energy, and get comfortable with the new sights, smells, and sounds. A few minutes of sniffing and stretching their legs can make all the difference in helping them feel calm, confident, and ready for their close-up!
I noticed a lot of dogs in your portfolio - do you work with other animals too?
Absolutely! While dogs and cats are my most frequent subjects, I truly love working with animals of all kinds. I’ve had the joy of photographing horses, rabbits and even a hamster! If you have a unique companion, I’d be absolutely thrilled to capture their personality and story. Every animal has their own charm, and I’m always excited to meet someone new (no matter how many legs, wings, or whiskers they have).
Do you work alone or with an assistant?
Our photography ‘pack’ includes your pet’s favorite human - you!
Who better to be part of their special day than the person who knows them best? Whether it’s holding a leash, offering treats, or just being nearby for comfort, your presence plays a big role in helping your pet feel relaxed and happy during their session.
If you’re not comfortable assisting or unable to no worries at all. We’ll chat while planning your session and come up with a plan that works best for everyone. I do my best to bring an assistant when possible, but availability can vary.
At the end of the day, your pet’s comfort (and yours!) is always the top priority.
What about Minnesota weather?
While we do our best to keep your session on the original date, sometimes Minnesota weather has other ideas.
If the forecast isn’t looking promising, I’ll be in touch 1–2 days before your session to talk through options and reschedule if needed. Whether it’s rain, wind, or wild temperature swings, we’ll make sure your session happens in the best light, with everyone safe, dry, and happy.
How do I take my cat outside for the first time?
Always secure your cat with a properly fitted harness and leash never rely on a collar alone. Let your cat get used to wearing the harness indoors before heading outside. Never leave your cat unattended outdoors, even if they seem comfortable.
Does my pet need to be off-leash to get nice photos?
Most of the pets I photograph stay on leash during their session, especially since many parks require it. Don’t worry I’ll guide you on the best way to hold or place the leash so I can easily remove it during editing. This way, your pet stays safe, we stay within park rules, and your final gallery looks beautifully natural.
Can I order photo prints and products from you directly?
Yes! After your session, you’ll receive a private online gallery with a convenient web store. This store links directly to some of the top professional photo labs in the United States, offering a wide range of products from beautiful prints and framed photos to canvases and albums. Ordering through your gallery means you get premium quality products made with your best images, all with just a few clicks!

Impurrfect PawPrints is based in Aitkin, MN, and proudly serves pets and their people within a 30-mile radius no travel fees required.
If you're located beyond that range, a small travel fee may apply based on distance. Feel free to reach out, and I’ll be happy to provide a custom quote for your location!
I don't know what I would wear to a photo session. Can you help me with outfit ideas?
Absolutely! Check out my Experience Guides for tips on coordinating colors, or reach out and we can plan a theme together that fits perfectly with your location. Most importantly choose something that makes you feel confident, comfortable, and true to you.
Also consider the setting whether it’s a field of flowers, autumn leaves, or fresh winter snow and I’ll help you pick tones that highlight both the landscape and your pet’s unique coloring. Together, we’ll create the perfect look for a session that feels genuine and joyful.
What if my dog doesn’t know any tricks… or even how to sit?
That’s totally okay really! Your dog doesn’t need to be a perfectly trained pup to have a beautiful, successful session. In fact, most of the pets I photograph don’t know any commands at all (or choose not to follow them - we love a little sass).
My goal is to capture your pet as they are joyful, curious, goofy, wild-hearted and I have lots of patience, tricks, and tools to work with all kinds of personalities. We’ll work at their pace, use plenty of treats and praise, and keep things fun and low-pressure the whole way through.
No obedience badge required just your pet being their wonderfully unique self.
I have a reactive pup. Is a photo session still an option?
Absolutely! I have lots of experience working with reactive dogs and as a reactive dog mom myself, I truly understand the extra care and planning these sessions require.
The key is choosing the right location and timing our session for quieter parts of the day to help your dog feel as calm as possible. I bring the same patience and awareness to your session that I use when I’m out with my own pup.
My goal is always to create a safe, low-stress experience so your dog can be themselves and so you walk away with beautiful, heartfelt images you’ll treasure.
When is the best time of day?

Late afternoons are a fan favorite, hello golden hour glow!
If you’re an early bird, sunrise sessions bring that fresh, calm vibe (and maybe a coffee or two).
Sunset sessions? Absolutely stunning, but they’re quick blink and you might miss it! Don’t forget about “blue hour,” that magical twilight window just after the sun dips, perfect for dreamy, soft-light vibes.
