Not sure what to wear or how to pose? I’ve got you covered with tips and tricks to make sure everyone feels confident and comfortable (including your pet!).
Leash Editing (When Possible)
Your pet’s safety comes first, so most sessions are done with leashes on but don’t worry! I use careful editing techniques to remove leashes in images where it’s feasible, so all you see is your pet shining bright.

You’ll receive a gallery of beautifully edited, high-resolution images ready to share, print, and treasure forever.
Step 1. Booking Your Photo Session
Once you’ve submitted your inquiry form, we’ll connect to chat through your session options. Together, we’ll choose the perfect date, time, and location to bring your vision to life.
From there, you’ll just need to sign the session agreement. Once that is in, your session is officially booked and on the calendar!

Step 2. Pre-Session Questionnaire
Before your scheduled session, you’ll receive a questionnaire asking more about yourself and your cat(s), what you like to do together, and more. This is where I get more information about food allergies (for your cat) and any behavioral things I should know about. This is when we will begin determining the photo location for your session based on what your comfortable with.
Step 3. Your Photo Session
On session day, we move at your cat’s pace slow, calm, and completely on their terms. I’ll start by giving them space to observe and get used to my presence, the camera, and any new surroundings. Cats are sensitive creatures, and building trust is the first step to capturing them as they truly are.
There’s no rushing here.
I’ll let them explore, sniff, perch, or hide if they need to it’s all part of the process. Every cat is different, and whether they’re curious, aloof, playful, or shy, I’ll adapt to their energy. The goal is always comfort first, allowing space for their true personality to shine through naturally.
With a soft approach and plenty of patience, we’ll gently ease into the session, capturing quiet moments, curious glances, and the little details that make your cat completely one-of-a-kind.
Step 4. Final Editing Process
Once your session is complete, I’ll carefully review all the images and handpick the ones that best tell your cat’s story from those quiet glances, curious stares, cozy stretches, and little in-between moments that make them who they are.
This approach keeps the experience stress-free for you. No need to sort through hundreds of photos or make tough choices. You’ll simply receive a thoughtfully curated gallery full of the moments that matter most.
From there, your images are added to my editing queue. During this process, I bring each photo to life enhancing color, removing distractions, and bringing attention to the charming quirks and soulful details that make your cat truly special. Turnaround time varies by season and workload, but I’ll provide you with an estimated delivery date so you know what to expect.
Step 5. Your Online Gallery
Once your final edits are complete, you’ll receive a link to your personal online gallery filled with beautifully edited, high-quality portraits that highlight your cat’s unique charm and elegance. From there, you can download your images in both high-resolution (perfect for printing) and web-resolution (ideal for sharing), and explore a handpicked selection of professional print and product options right from the gallery.
Your gallery will remain active for one full year, but I always recommend downloading and backing up your images to both a computer and cloud storage to keep your portraits safe for years to come.
Step 6. Time to Turn Photos into Keepsakes!
Your gallery isn’t just for looking it’s also a one-stop shop for turning your favorite images into wall-worthy art. Choose from gorgeous prints, albums, framed pieces, and more right from your gallery.
Want to print somewhere else? Totally fine! Just make sure to use the high-res files so your images stay sharp and beautiful. Need advice? I’m happy to help!
Step 7. Enjoy What Matters Most
Now for the best part enjoying your images. Whether you frame them for your walls, create a stunning album to flip through, or share your favorites online, these photos are meant to be seen and loved.
They tell the story of a cat that deserves to be celebrated every single day. Don’t let them sit forgotten on a hard drive bring them into your world and let them bring joy for years to come.
How to Prepare
For You:
If you plan to be in the photos with your cat, Being well-rested and choosing your outfit ahead of time can really help you feel more relaxed and confident in front of the camera. Remember, there’s no need to worry about your pet’s behavior during our session. I’ve worked with all kinds of personalities and am fully prepared to handle whatever comes our way. If your cat is comfortable exploring the great outdoors, outdoor photography sessions can capture their natural curiosity and playful spirit in beautiful, natural light. But if your feline friend prefers the safety and familiarity of home, that’s absolutely perfect too! Indoor sessions create a relaxed, cozy atmosphere where your cat can truly be themselves and either way, we’ll make sure your pet feels safe, happy, and stress-free throughout the entire experience.
My goal is to make this a fun, stress-free experience for both of you, so all you have to do is enjoy the time together and let those genuine moments shine.

For your Cat:
If your cat tends to be shy, sensitive, or just a little unsure around new people or situations, don’t worry that’s more common than you might think, and it’s nothing we can’t work with! A calm, familiar environment can make all the difference. For in-home sessions, try to limit access to deep hiding spots or under-the-bed escapes so your cat stays nearby and feels encouraged (but never forced) to engage. You can also create a cozy area in a room with natural light, soft blankets, and their favorite spots or toys places where they already feel safe and confident.
Some cats just need a few extra minutes to check me out, give a few sniffs, or keep their distance and that’s completely okay. I always move at their pace, using calm body language and minimal equipment to make the experience as stress-free as possible.
My goal is never to force the perfect pose but to create a relaxed, low-pressure experience where your cat can feel safe and comfortable just being themselves. Whether they want to explore, lounge in the sun, or quietly observe, I’ll be ready to capture their spirit in a way that feels true to them and special for you.
Accessorize: (If You’d Like!)
Your cat’s natural charm is always the star of the show but a favorite bandana, a cute hat, or seasonal accessory can add a fun pop of personality.
If you’d like to include something extra, just be sure to let your cat get familiar with it ahead of time so they feel confident and at ease during the session.
Keep it cozy, simple, and true to their vibe. And if accessories aren’t their thing? That’s totally fine their whiskered, wonderful self is more than enough.
Grooming Tips for Your Purrfect Companion:
Even the most self-sufficient groomers can use a little extra help before their big photoshoot! A gentle brushing 1–2 days before your session is a great way to freshen up your cat’s coat, reduce loose fur, and help them look their best whether they’re a fluffy longhair or a sleek shorthaired breed.
If your cat regularly sees a groomer (especially for trimming or deshedding), try to schedule the appointment 3–4 days ahead of time. Grooming on the same day can leave them a bit tired or overstimulated and we want your kitty feeling calm and confident.
On the day of the shoot, do a quick check for eye boogies, tear stains, or any stray fur tufts. These small touch-ups go a long way in helping their natural charm shine through in every frame.
Share Your Vision:
I’d love to hear about any specific ideas or poses you have in mind for your session! While I can’t promise every shot will turn out exactly as you envision, I’m all about giving it my best shot and bringing your ideas to life. Don’t hesitate to share Pinterest boards, photos, or just chat with me during the session. I’m always excited to try new things and make your vision a reality.
Some important things to consider for the Humans!
Please remember to remove your keys and cell phone from your pockets! While I may be able to fix some of the ugly bulges, I can’t promise to fix them all and extensive re-touching can be difficult! I’ll try to remind you at the time of the session as well.
These are the type of things that distract from and spoil your photos!
Let’s Talk Cat Gear:
During your session, your cat’s comfort and safety are top priorities especially if we're photographing outdoors or in a new environment. Many cats do best in secure harnesses, and that’s perfectly okay! While some harnesses may be visible in the final images, I use thoughtful posing, creative angles, and selective editing to keep the spotlight on your cat not their gear.
If your kitty isn’t used to a harness yet, I recommend getting them familiar with it well in advance. Start with short, positive sessions at home with plenty of treats and praise. The more comfortable they are, the more confident they’ll feel on session day.
We’ll go over all of this during your planning session, so you know exactly what to expect and can feel totally prepared.
Preparing Your Home for a Cat Photography Session
1.Choose Your Cat’s Favorite Spot
Pick a room or area where your cat already feels comfortable maybe their favorite windowsill, a cozy spot on the couch, or a sunny nook they love to nap in. Natural light is ideal, so spaces near large windows are perfect. Try to avoid areas with overhead lighting only, as softer daylight will help us capture your cat looking their best.
2. Minimize Hiding Opportunities
Before the session, close off doors to rooms with tricky hiding places like under beds, behind furniture, or into basements. The goal isn’t to confine your cat but to gently encourage them to stay within our shooting space. Creating a calm and familiar zone helps them feel secure and reduces the chance of stress or retreat.
3. Tidy the Space (But Keep It Real!)
Declutter the area where we’ll be working by folding any blankets, putting away excess toys, and clearing off surfaces like coffee tables or window ledges. That said, don’t feel pressured to have a “perfect” home lived-in is lovely! We just want the focus to stay on your cat without background distractions.
4. Have Toys & Treats on Hand
Having your cat’s favorite things nearby helps create a session full of genuine, joyful moments. A feather wand, crinkle toy, or their go-to treat can work wonders in grabbing their attention. Treats with a strong scent are especially helpful for shy or food-motivated kitties. If they’re not treat-driven, a little chin scratch or their favorite sound (like a clicker or shake of a snack bag) might be all it takes.
5. Keep the Vibe Calm and Chill
Cats feed off our energy, so the more relaxed and quiet the home is during the session, the better. If there are other pets or small children around, consider keeping the space a bit more contained or having a helper on hand. I’ll also move slowly and respectfully, letting your cat come to me on their own terms.
This prep not only helps us create beautiful images it ensures your cat stays comfortable, curious, and confident throughout our time together. And when they feel at ease, their personality shines through in every photo.
If You Choose to Be in the Photos Too:
Including yourself in your cat’s photo session can create some of the most meaningful and heartwarming images but only if it feels right for both of you. If your cat isn’t used to being held, that’s okay! Not every cat enjoys it, and I’ll never force a pose that makes either of you uncomfortable.
That said, if you're hoping for a sweet photo of the two of you together, a little practice ahead of time can go a long way. Try holding your cat for short periods in a calm space even just a few seconds at a time is helpful. You can even stand in front of a mirror while holding them; the reflection sometimes acts as a fun (and distracting!) curiosity that keeps them calm and still just long enough for a great shot.
Whether you’re snuggling on the couch or sharing a quiet moment by the window, my goal is to capture your connection as naturally and comfortably as possible. There’s no pressure just you, your cat, and a whole lot of love.
Purrfect Pairings: What to Wear With Your Cat:
Choosing the right colors can make your cat stand out beautifully in your photos. Contrasting tones help their fur pop, while complementary hues can create a cohesive, eye-catching look.
- Orange tabbies:
Navy, black, forest green, or deep jewel tones like emerald or burgundy will make their warm coloring stand out.
- White or light-colored cats:
Try bold, solid colors like cobalt blue, rust, maroon, or deep plum to add contrast. Avoid beige or pale tones that might blend in too much.
- Black cats:
Soft neutrals like cream, gray, or camel look stunning, but bold brights like red or teal also provide a playful contrast. Avoid all-black unless you want a very dramatic, moody look.
- Gray cats:
Earth tones like olive, mustard, and dusty rose pair well, as do cooler shades like slate blue or lavender.
- Brown or brindle coats:
Rich tones like wine, mustard, or deep teal highlight the complexity of their fur. Neutral tones with texture (like knits or denim) also complement beautifully.
- Match their eyes:
If your cat has striking green, gold, or blue eyes, matching your outfit to their eye color can create a visually striking, harmonious image.
In general, solid colors tend to photograph best. Try to avoid overly busy patterns or stripes, as they can distract from your cat (who should always be the star of the show!). If you're unsure, feel free to send me outfit options—I'm happy to help!
